Country Charm Farm Charmed Our Family
by Dee Gillespie, West Lafayette, Indiana

This family visits an upstate New York pumpkin picking farm and finds photo and picnic opportunities that transport them back in time.

Just when you thought the world was getting too commercial and good old simple family fun was long gone...there is a place that still offers the pleasure of visiting a real working farm and picking your own pumpkin.

Gather up a wagon and head on out to the fields to find that special pumpkin that is just meant to go home with you!  The fun certainly doesn’t stop with pumpkin picking at Country Charm Farm in New Paltz, NY.

There are over 40 life-size scarecrows and scenes inviting the entire family to pose for photos. Be part of the bridal party with the traditional bride and groom or hop in Elvis’ pink Cadillac. How about posing as the President of the United States or sitting at the bus stop with Grannie? Just don't forget to bring a camera! The fun continues with a scenic tractor-pulled hayride with attractions and displays all along the route. This is no traditional hayride~when is the last time you saw an alligator in NY?

This 25-year-old farm is truly amazing and is certainly one of a kind. A venture there will leave memories for a life-time but we are guessing that once you have made the trip it won’t be your last!

Located at the foot of the Shawangunk Mountains with a magnificent panoramic view, this is a great place for a family picnic in the parking lot (no, tables aren’t provided but feel free to spread your blanket).  No gate or parking fee is charged (just a small fee for the hayride).  There is also a giant barn sale featuring all sorts of treasures.

Make a whole weekend out of it by staying at such nearby family-friendly accommodations as the Lefevre Bed and Breakfast or camping at the Newburgh KOA.
