Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Top Ski Resort
by Fran Falkin

Jackson Hole won Top 10 Getaways for parents with infants and children in 1998.

You've recently become parents and you're exhausted...You've just had a second, or third, baby and you're overwhelmed. You need a vacation badly, but what do you do with the baby??? You could leave her with grandma, but you'd miss her too much, or you could bring a sitter along, if one were available. Because most resort and hotel programs only accept children 5 years plus, our parent company, www.FamilyTravelForum.com surveyed getaways which cater to infants and toddlers under 3 years of age. Here's a look at the resort today.

Jackson Hole
Granite Loop Road
Teton Village, WY 83025
888/DEEP-SNO, 307/733-2292
Located 12 miles from the town of Jackson, this popular ski resort provides an authentic "Wild West" atmosphere as a backdrop for exciting skiing, a safe and well-regarded ski school, and an exceptional childcare program. And, if your family needs a break from the slopes, Jackson Hole's proximity to the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone National Park and the National Elk Refuge provides the opportunity to experience the breathtaking beauty of this part of the country.

The Kid's Ranch, licensed by the state, is open for children 6 months to 17 years from 8:30am-4:30pm during the entire ski season. The caring staff is CPR and First Aid trained. "Wranglers" (6 - 36 months) facilities include a crib nursery and separate playroom for babies and toddlers at $130/full day and $100-110/half day (reservations required).

"Rough Riders," for 3-6 year olds, is a program which introduces skiing and teaches such fundamentals as turning, stopping on beginner runs, and other skills necessary to enjoy the sport. Half and full day sessions are offered with games, toys and music are available for quiet play after lessons.

"Little Rippers" are 5 to 6 year olds who take beginner snowboard lessons.  "Explorers" are 7-14-year-olds who learn and perfect skiing and snowboarding in appropriate age and ability groups, and "Team Extreme" and new "Kids' Park and Pipe Camp" provides exciting adventures for experienced 12-17-year-old skiers and boarders.  Evening babysitting can also be arranged through the Kid's Ranch.

Comments:

The nicest thing about Jackson Hole is its variety of runs. The snow is not as nice as Grand Targhee, but Jackson Hole has more options for skiers and boarders of all levels. For a cheaper budget and more skier friendly atmosphere I would head to Grand Targhee.
